Hello!

Do you own a pair of oars? I did. Long before I bought my first single, I bought oars and thought “I had arrived.” Then one day I looked at the blades and noticed they were all beat up and since I wanted to feel cool like the rest of my rowing friends, I decided to paint them.

That didn’t go so well.  What a mess.

I’d paint and sand and paint and they still looked like my dog did the job.

Then, after I finally got them painted my favorite color, I found the club requires them to be painted in club colors!

I sent them to a pro. Cost a fortune but they looked great- Just like everyone else’s!

And that’s when the fun began.

I spent more time trying to spot my blades among the 200 or more sets other members hung proudly against the wall with their shiny blue paint and white pin-striping.

Why I stated designing custom oar covers.

My new daily chants became:

"Who keeps moving my blades?"

"How did mine end up on the trailer for master’s nationals?"

"Who moved my collars?"

"Where did that big gouge come from?"

"WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME???"

I tried labeling the shaft of my blades with colorful Duck Tape™ to no avail- I couldn’t see the shaft of my oars in the back of my rack.

I was about to give up when a friend brought in a set of “Oar Cozies” she had made for our sweep oars.

OMG how cool are those? They are perfect!

But to be honest, they were kind of boring. How ‘bout some personality? It’s about to be winter - how about leather? And let’s add a fur collar so they’ll be cozy as can be during a blizzard. No wait! That gold spandex is just the answer!

Stand out, snug and sexy as all get out!!

I made 25 custom oar covers for a friend who owns a lot of equipment. We put them on all her blades and took them on her trailer to master’s nationals. I was swamped by people asking where I got my covers.

So here we are. Making oar covers. Sweep oar covers, sculling oar covers, Fatties oar covers, Smoothies oar covers, whatever. You dream ‘em, we can probably make ‘em. The real question is, Why not?!

Now just a little disclaimer: We are semi-retired rowers, not sew-ers. The oar covers are pretty resilient but are not necessarily waterproof unless you request that feature. Also some of our covers are obviously more decorative and will hold up far better if store in a boat house than outdoors on a rack at the beach.

Find your oars and protect your oars.
